Our Greece trip for Marina and Nik’s Wedding has finally arrived! The past couple days have been a struggle! School started last week and Lucas already got sick. Monday, as school was almost over, the school nurse called me to say Lucas had a stomachache and headache. We picked him up and he did not look well. He then had diarrhea. The night was hard because he was so restless, probably with body aches. He had to stay home yesterday. When I got home from work, he was still laying around and having diarrhea. I noticed it looked like he wasn’t able to move his head and neck right. So I asked him and he said his neck hurt. He was struggling to put his chin to his chest. So of course I was worried. I called a doctor I work with, and he said to come in. Luckily, he was seen quickly and it was determined to probably just be viral pains. He was already getting better in the ER. Today when he woke up he was better. He said “I feel better! I wanna play soccer! Time to go to school!” So, we went from feeling uncertain we would go to Greece and worrying so much about him to feeling better, which is awesome. Lucas went to school until 12:45. All his teachers were so excited. It felt good to be reassured about the trip, because I was worried about taking him out of school. We took a cab to O’Hare and checked in easily. Don bought Lucas some chapter books and he was working on reading. He was doing really well! The flight wasn’t too bad. Lucas discovered the window shade in the plane was electronic. There was a button that dimmed the window, it was pretty cool. Lucas slept the whole time after dinner. It was just super uncomfortable, so Don and I didn’t sleep much at all. When we got into Athens the passport check line was crazy long! Finally, they opened up other lines and we made it thru. We saw Lanie and Jason as we were getting our bags. Finding our car we rented with hertz was not fun. All the hertz cars were the furthest away and we walked around with our luggage forever. Getting out of the parking lot was a challenge also. But once we were on the road, we were fine. The drive to Kalamata was about 3 hours. We stopped at a rest stop halfway and got a small cheeseburger at a place called Goody’s. It was ok. The last half hour of driving was terrible I was just so tired. Then because we stopped at a grocery store the GPS took us thru some crazy back alley way to get to the hotel. Once at the hotel it was so nice. The room was great. We checked out the pool, and it was awesome. Then we had dinner by the water at Nautilus. We had calamari. I had a pork souvlaki plate. Don had octopus and Lucas had spaghetti. Lucas had fun putting his feet in the water.
